Located in the beautiful Gramercy Park is the second location of the h igh-endFrench bistro Boucherie, which celebrates the optimism, prosperity and
decadent culture of France. As the second location in New York for Boucherie, SAVVY Studio set the groundwork for the restaurant’s identity through the use of
bold bright colors, big letters, and a vintage atmosphere.

La Belle Epoque
The concept for the branding’s design began with the French phrase “La Belle Epoque”, which translates to a beautiful time. With this in mind, SAVVY Studio wanted to emulate the joyousness of the La Belle Epoque and blend it with the idea of frivolity and hedonism. All of these elements applied to the branding were done so effortlessly, which created an atmosphere of indulgence and happiness for any diner looking for an exquisite meal.

In Boucherie’s newest location, the experience continues to amaze, as diners will be able to feel the joie de vivre in the air. Dining at the bistro is all about joy: the joy of intellectual conversation, of a fine meal, of time with friends until 3 a.m., of life itself. The French cuisine, the culture, the sense of magic and mystique all come together authentically.

The Boucherie Brand
Every element of Boucherie comes together in a cohesive way, from the design of the kitchen to the menus, coasters, and posters around the restaurant. Ultimately, the idea was to take classic French elements and meld them with the architecture and interior design of the restaurant. The color palette began with the classic Art Nouveau posters and French butcher shops; the rich reds and vibrant golds were selected as a contrast for the wood interiors, and the creamy white and beige backgrounds. From there,
SAVVY Studio began the careful selection for the menu, with Sans Serif chosen as the typography. This, combined with a large font and a subtle 3-D effect, is reminiscent of the French meat shops’ metal signs. Other typefaces chosen like Didoni were blended together for the sake of authenticity.

All other aspects were created with a hint of abstraction, and a delightful French flair. The coasters’ illustrative design were inspired by the works of French painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, but simplified and modernized to give them a more contemporary vibe. To add that special touch of luxury, a gold accent was incorporated.

Ultimately, SAVVY Studio has taken the most exhilarating aspects of French culture and applied them to often the most overlooked aspects of a restaurant.
The spirit of La Belle Epoque can be seen and felt in every corner of the bistro, leaving guests with an incredible fine dining experience and a delectable taste of French life.
