Some Basic Rules for Label Design

Designers call packaging and label the face of the brand. Thanks to them, you can show the inner essence of the product, reveal its main characteristics. In order to develop a quality label design, these rules must be considered.

Harmonious Composition

On the label you need to put a lot of elements:

  • obligatory information (expiration dates, barcode, production address, etc.);

  • logo

  • additional brand information.

All these elements must be in harmony with each other and combined in the space of the label.

Free Space

Gone are the days when it was necessary to fill every millimeter of the label. A sense of space and airiness is a new trend in label design. The balance of filled and free areas must be maintained. An overabundance of information is annoying for buyers.

The Hierarchy of Information

It is psychologically determined that a person perceives information in a certain order. This also applies to the choice of goods. Also, people want to get the information they need as quickly as possible. Therefore, the information on the packaging must be arranged so that the buyer can read it in a few seconds. These factors must be considered when designing a package. For the consumer, the most convenient arrangement of information looks like this:

  • an element to attract attention;

  • brand name;

  • the product’s name;

  • product information.

Packaging Design: New Horizons

It is a well-known fact that when creating packaging design especially beauty packaging it is necessary to focus on the target audience of products. At the same time, the opinion of some consumers was not taken into account for many years.

When developing product designs for children, many manufacturers focus solely on the tastes of their parents. Manufacturers are afraid to contact the child directly. At the same time, children can take an active part in the selection of goods. In addition, the child will have to use such products, which means that the design should be pleasant to him. Developing packaging design for children, you can apply such tactics.

Using Simple Stories

It is difficult for children, especially kindergartens and primary school children, to keep multilevel stories in their heads. Therefore, packaging design should reveal one specific aspect. For example, on the packaging with ice cream you can draw the process of its use.

Elements of the Game

It’s very important for children to interact with the world. An example is the packaging of water from the Y Water brand. Does the title play up the question Y? The pronunciation of the letter Y is consonant with the pronunciation of the word ‘why’ (why). Why choose this product? Because children want to have fun, and packaging should help them with this. After the water is drunk, the bottle can be used as an element of the designer. Bottles can be interconnected and, thus, to build the desired design. Y Water brand sparkling water is designed for children, so there is no advertising information on the packaging itself. Only the logo in the form of the letter Y. Information about the brand is placed on the attached label that parents can read.

Cartoon Characters

To attract the attention of the child and interest him, you can use various characters. They are easy to remember and cause a sense of affection. The character can become a companion of the child, who explains how to properly use this or that product.

Packaging should be visible. It can stand out with the help of an unusual shape, bright colors or images. Many consumers come to the store for products of a certain, already familiar brand. Unusual design can make you interested in a new product and consider it. When developing a product packaging design, one should not forget about functionality. Packaging design should evoke positive emotions.
