Leaked Photo Shows Apple’s Plastic Wrap-Free iPhone 13 Packaging

Ahead of wide availability for Apple’s iPhone 13, a new packaging process for the device was leaked by Twitter user “DuanRui” last week.

The photo shows an iPhone 13 package with no outer plastic wrap that has typically been relied upon to secure Apple’s smartphones. Instead, Apple Insider observes, the package is sealed with a sticker and an integrated pull tab, keeping the box securely closed during transit and acting as a tamper-evident seal.

The article adds that Apple has implemented a similar tear-away solution for its accessories, with plastic stickers appearing on cables and Apple Watch bands.

Apple says the elimination of the plastic wrap will conserve 600 metric tons of waste, presumably over the device’s lifetime. The electronics maker has said it aims to remove all plastic from its packaging by 2025.
