Packaging EPR Bills in Maine and Oregon Await Governor Signatures

Bills that would create extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs for packaging in Maine and Oregon now await governor signatures after recently passing in both states’ House and Senate chambers, Resource Recycling reports.

In Maine, the legislation establishes EPR for certain packaging products and spans “virtually all material types,” the article says.

The bill, however, exclude some packaging applications such as long-term storage materials and paint containers, while containing exemptions for small businesses that produce a low volume of packaging.

In Oregon, the EPR program would encompass packaging, printing and writing paper, and food serviceware.
