https://techcrunch.com/2020/03/27/a-new-fda-authorized-covid-19-test-doesnt-need-a-lab-and-can-produce-results-in-just-5-minutes

This case study by Darrell Etherington explores how Abbott was able to launch a COVID-19 test that can produce results in as little as 5 minutes using machinery that’s already widely available. Understanding that feasibility is essential to innovation, the pharmaceutical giant decided to develop the test, ID NOW, to run on hardware that already “holds the largest molecular point-of-care footprint in the U.S.,” and is “widely available” across doctor’s offices, urgent care clinics, emergency rooms and other medical facilities.
