Keynote Speaker Announced for R&D/Leverage Open House 2017 “Breaking Down the Silos in Plastic Packaging”

Do you know what big brand owners know about packaging and how it can make or break a brand? According to Gerry O’Brion, CEO and Founder of “What Big Brands Know,” packaging can be risky business and full of pitfalls, many of these caused by lack of collaboration between marketing, mold making and operations.

O’Brion, a National Speaker and Consultant to the packaging industry, will provide a special presentation at R&D/Leverage’s Open House, September 20-22. O’Brion’s career includes packaging and branding Procter & Gamble, Quiznos, Red Robin, and as a former Brand Manager for Coors Light. O’Brion will demonstrate to Brand Owners and Converters methods needed to tear down the silos that exist in organizations, and increase their success rate and profitability by coordinating all areas of manufacturing.

O’Brion will give attendees to R&D/Leverage’s Open House information critical to moving the needle of the brand by creating synergies between the operations side of producing innovative packaging and the branding/marketing side. R&D/Leverage sits at that critical juncture between brand/marketing and operations, at the point in which innovative packaging and manufacturability come together where the best ideas for creative packaging are born. “Marketing people often do not understand the mold process, and the role that the mold design and build plays in ensuring a successful package,” says O’Brion. “We need to break down the silos between branding/marketing and mold making operations. The further up front mold makers can be in the process, the more successful they can be at creating packaging that can be successfully manufactured. The result is the elimination of delays, frustration and distrust.”

Attendees will learn about four critical factors that make packaging and branding a success:

It’s what’s up front that counts! The further up front you involve operations the better the product.

How do you shorten development time lines?

Increase success rates by knowing what’s possible early in the development process?

And how do you make money by making it all happen?

R&D/Leverage is hosting their tri-annual Open House this September 20-22, where many new innovations will be presented and demonstrated during plant tours and presentation series. Registration and overview for the event can be found at
