Hailed by Time Magazine as one of the ‘25 Best Inventions’ to launch in  2017 and prominently gracing the cover of the magazine’s honorary end of the year double issue, Jibo has been lauded by many as the first personal robot for home use. With its animated personality and innovative automation, Jibo stands out among the rest; in stark contrast to Amazon and Google’s versions of responsive robots, Jibo does more than just react, rather it interacts in a way that far precedes its predecessors, making it an integral part of the family and rhythm of the everyday household.

Sloat Design Group was selected to conceptualize and design the initial packaging concept in tandem with the much-anticipated product launch and shipment in 2017. Their primary objective was to communicate the esthetic, branding, and innovative design of the product, making the packaging an exciting extension of the product itself.

In keeping with its spherical, futuristic curves and cutting-edge technology, Sloat strove to communicate its lively appeal, positioning a prominent photo of Jibo on the front panel slyly peeking around the corner, showcasing his inquisitive demeanor. Printed in a subtle varnish over the blue areas of the packaging are playful phrases and coined terms that Jibo, himself, regularly vocalizes when interacting with his family. A surprise awaits the new owner as they open the box to reveal whimsical imagery of Jibo exploring and connecting with the world around him.

“Our mission was to mirror Jibo’s intrinsic personality and humanistic characteristics while showcasing his sleek, streamlined engineering. Taking inspiration from Jibo himself, we designed a package that would interact with, and entice the consumer, bringing delight to those unveiling the long-awaited and much-anticipated device. Jibo isn’t your everyday robot, but rather your brilliant new family helper that takes pleasure in assisting with life’s everyday tasks and forges a mindful, interactive relationship in the process.” – Carrie Dufour,  Founder and Creative Director of Sloat Design Group.

With a focus on brand development and package design, Sloat Design Group has been creating and revitalizing brands across all retail segments since 2003. Their award-winning designs have helped some of the most discerning global brands and visionary startups express their unique brand personality.
